Description
Very nice cut signature of North Carolina War Governor "Zebulon Baird Vance mounted in blue matting along with a B&W 8x10 photo of a young Vance. Presented in inexpensive gold frame. Matting measures 13"x15" and frame measures 15"x17". Not professionally framed. Zeb graduated UNC law school and practiced law in Ashville, NC. Soon after civil war broke out he was elected Colonel of the 26th NC Infantry. In 1862 he resigned after being elected Governor. After the war he was imprisoned for a short time and paroled in July 1865, then pardoned in 1867 after never being charged with any crime. Afterwards he served another term as Governor and was elected to the US Senate where he served until his death in 1894. Also served in US House of Representatives as NC rep. before the war.
