    This canteen pattern is an oval or “ kidney bean “ shape and has a soldered tin construction with a metal handle affixed and a treaded screw stopper The convex side of the canteen is marked or stenciled with the lettering U.S. M. ( Medical) DEPT Measurements of the canteen : 10 1/2” long, 1 1/2” wide and 6 1/4” high without handle.
    Please note that whoever did the stenciling of the canteen put a upside down“ W” instead of a “ M “.
    This U.S. Medical Dept canteen is original ,authentic & quite rare. This type of canteen are usually found in Civil War museums or in private collections.
