Description
Rare original large North American Automobile Association enamel badge emblem insignia nameplate or license plate topper. Online research is sparse for this company, I think it was an early automobile driver's benefit group and possible competitor of the AAA. I assume this badge is from the 1910s to 30s, one clue is the "Gustave Fox" makers mark which I believe was dropped during the World War 1 period of anti-German activism but I do not know exact year or application for this emblem. Badges like these were made using the champleve or guilloche process of heat bonding melted glass to a copper base which was then plated. 3 1/2" diameter, heavy stamped brass with blue, white, and translucent red enamel and nickel plating. Makers mark "THE GUSTAVE FOX CO. CINTI, O." on back. Excellent used condition, no damage of any kind and perfect enamel, only a few very minor scratches. Plating shows heavy wear and patination, single mounting hole in center is in good shape. Hard to find, great for your collection, easily restorable, would look good attached to a classic car.
