COMPARE TO LISTING 283643347264 OFFERED ON EBAY FOR ,995.00Rare, historically significant 1974 photographic promotional card (4.5 X 6.25) of Formula One racing legend Nicki Lauda (1949-2019) signed on the verso by Lauda and legendary racing entrepreneur and founder of Ferrari automobile, Enzo Ferrari (1898-1988) with his inscription, “Grazie e cordiali saluti, Ferrari.” Nicknamed “the Great Old Man,” as a young driver himself, Ferrari won his first Grand Prix in 1923. Lauda’s name is synonymous with Formula one racing, winning the title as F1 World Driver’s Champion three times, 1975, 1977 and in 1984, and is the ONLY driver in F1 history to have been a champion for both Ferrari and McLaren. This signed 1974 promotional card that shares the famed Ferrari symbol on verso is a rare artifact from the inception of the historic racing relationship between the pair as Lauda led Ferrari’s racing team, driving for them from 1974-1977. It was during their tenure together that Lauda suffered a terrible accident where his Ferrari burst into flames, miraculously being pulled out of the wreckage and entering into a coma, miraculously surviving severe injuries and burns after being delivered his last rights at the hospital. Returning to racing, Ferrari’s and Lauda’s relationship did not end without controversy when in 1977 Lauda left the Ferrari team after winning the Driver’s Championship at the United States Grand Prix because of Ferrari’s decision to replace him with a relatively unknown driver in the Canadian Grand Prix. Excellent condition.
