    POTOMAC CROSSING, JUNE 25, 1863
It was one of the wars most dramatic moments, and the soldiers of General Lee knew it. Less than a year earlier, Lee's army had tried to do so, and failed. The invasion had been turned back at the battle on Antietam. now, in the summer of 1863, Lee's army was again wading the Potomac, crossing into Maryland--on the way to Pa. and Gettysburg. This time they were fresh off a major victory at Chancellorsville.
On the morning of Thursday, June 25th--General Pettigrew's troops forded the river. on the Maryland shore they shouted the rebel yell as someone in the 26th NC begin singing Maryland, My Maryland. If only they knew what awaited at the batlle of Gettysburg upcoming.
