    I’ll do my best to read out the contents of this letter but parts are difficult to make out. Hopefully this will give you some idea!
    Huntsville Alabama March 18, 1863. Dear father, your letter of 16th received today. The dispatch came on Monday. I have experienced some difficulty in obtaining a wagon to haul your corn but have succeeded finally in engaging one to commence on Friday morning at which time the? Of? Railroad has promised me a car. It will take me until Saturday evening to load it. Mr.? Says you must bring hands to? By Monday mornings train to unload it and I have promised him you shall do so. Jeff will be in Chattanooga by the time this reaches you and if mother health will not permit you to leave make arrangements with him from? Your personal attention is very desirable and mother health Alone would justify your interesting it to another. Hi I am very sorry to hear of your mothers continued? And I am hopeful of a charge we love? We are all very well. I will telegraph should my arrangements fail. Very truly yours Robert Smith over.
