Original 1894 handwritten letter from Adjutant General Augustus D. Ayling
to close friend General Joab Nelson Patterson.
From the State of New Hampshire (Concord), addressed to Patterson
at the Army + Navy Club in Washington DC.
Gen'l Ayling was in charge of the New Hampshire National Guard for many years.
The letter content refers to a book that Patterson has sent to Ayling.
He sends his regards to Patterson's family and also sends a thank you
to Senator (William E) Chandler.

Concord - Jan 17 - 1894
My dear General, The book came all right and I am much obliged to you,
I acknowledge receipt and thank Senator Chandler by same mail.
We have had quite a cold snap here lately but since last Friday
the weather has moderated and today is lovely.
Remember us all to your family.  Sincerely Yours, A.D. Ayling
